Injectable Fillers

In today’s busy, appearance-conscious society, the signs of aging may begin long before we are ready to acknowledge them.  Slowly and unwillingly, we may begin to notice laugh lines around our mouth or crow’s feet around our eyes.  We may notice our skin seems to sag more and has lost the fresh glow and supple elasticity of youth.  However, just because our faces have begun to show the signs of age, stress, and environmental damage doesn’t mean that we are ready for costly, invasive surgical procedures that create lengthy interruptions to our busy schedules.  Luckily, with the development of injectable dermal fillers, cosmetic science has found a way to address many of these aesthetic problems in ways that are minimally-invasive, non-surgical, and cost-effective.  Moreover, injectable fillers almost offer the benefits of surgical procedures but can be completed in a much shorter time with minimal discomfort, and don’t require a lengthy recovery period.

Injectable fillers are designed to shape and contour the face and cheeks, restore volume and “plumpness” to the face, smooth and fill folds and wrinkles, diminish the appearance of scars and lines, and enhance and augment the lips.  The most commonly used fillers are hyaluronic acid (HA).  HA is a natural element found deep inside our tissue structures, allowing our tissue and skin to draw and hold water.  As our HA levels decrease with age, our facial skin and tissue is unable to retain moisture, leading to many of the problems we associate with aging.  HA-based facial fillers restore HA levels, helping our skin retain its “plump”, full appearance.  HA-based fillers are an excellent alternative to traditional surgical face lift procedures, but will require periodic maintenance treatments to maintain their effectiveness.
